Cambodia’s Vehicle Imports Surge 49% in H1, Passenger Cars Jump 66%

According to the General Department of Customs and Excise (GDCE), Cambodia’s automotive imports in the first half of 2025 reached USD 1.148 billion, representing a 49% year-on-year increase. Passenger car imports alone surged 66% to USD 487 million. This robust growth underscores rising household living standards and evolving consumer preferences toward diverse mobility.

The government’s automotive-electronics roadmap—emphasizing strategic coordination, talent & innovation, infrastructure, trade facilitation, and business climate optimization—further supports this momentum.

Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice President of the Development Council Sun Zhentuo stated that Cambodia is actively working to establish itself as a manufacturing hub for automotive parts and electronics targeting regional and global markets. In this context, several automobile assembly plants (including Ford, Toyota, Hyundai, and Isuzu) have already set up operations in the country, and BYD is also constructing a factory in the Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone. These achievements are attributed to effective tax incentive policies and the continuous growth of a skilled local labor force, providing solid support for Cambodia’s efforts to attract foreign investment and deepen its manufacturing capabilities.
