According to data from Indonesia’s Gaikindo, the country’s auto sales fell to 62,017 units in September 2025, down 15.1% year-on-year. Amid widespread declines among major brands, Chery surged, registering 2,105 units sold (+212.8% YoY, +78.5% MoM), becoming the top-selling Chinese brand in Indonesia.
Chery’s models sold locally include the J6, E5 EV, and Tiggo 8, all assembled in Bekasi. Indonesia sales director Budi Darmawan Jantania announced plans to double 2024’s retail and production volumes in 2025, aiming for roughly 22,000 units annually; current monthly deliveries already exceed 2,000 units. For 2026, Chery will intensify efforts with expanded dealer networks and new model launches.
Despite broad market pressure from weakening demand, consumer preferences are shifting: interest in Chery’s hybrid technology (Chery Super Hybrid, CSH) is rising. With a full product lineup spanning SUVs to hybrids, Chery is well positioned to meet diverse segment needs. Through September 2025, Chery’s wholesale sales reached 15,160 units, and retail sales 15,104 units.
In September, Indonesia’s overall auto market declined 14.6% YoY. Toyota and Daihatsu remained dominant with 20,738 and 10,605 units, respectively, but also saw steep declines. Among the top ten, only Chery achieved triple-digit growth, emerging as a standout performer.
In a challenging and contracting market, Chery’s ability to localize assembly, offer broad model coverage, and lead with hybrid technology has enabled it to break through — signaling growing influence for Chinese automakers in Indonesia.
