根据J.D.
According to the latest report from J.D. Power, U.S. electric vehicle sales are expected to decline by 43% year-on-year in October, mainly due to the expiration of the federal electric vehicle tax credits on September 30. J.D. Power analyst Tyson Jominy stated, “The U.S. EV market is undergoing a significant adjustment, with consumers increasingly favoring multiple powertrain options.”
The expected U.S. EV sales for October stand at 54,673 units, with a market share of 5.2%, down from 8.5% in the same period last year. Previously, consumer rushes to take advantage of expiring incentives led to a market share surge to 12.9% in September. However, with the tax credits expiring, total light vehicle sales in October are forecast to drop by 5.9%, with EV sales bearing the brunt of this decline.
To counteract this slowdown, manufacturers have introduced price cuts and promotions. For example, Hyundai is offering a $7,500 cash incentive on the Ioniq 5, while Tesla has released lower-priced versions of the Model 3 and Model Y. Despite these efforts, analysts predict that the share of EVs in the U.S. new car market will shrink further, with forecasts indicating a drop to 27% by 2030 from the previously estimated 48%.
