In October 2025, the European automotive market (EU, Nordics, and the UK) recorded 1.092 million vehicle sales, representing 4.9% year-on-year growth. Strong momentum in electric vehicles—supported by Chinese battery exports and EV supply—drove most of the expansion, while internal-combustion vehicles continued to contract.
Battery electric vehicles (BEVs) reached 225,000 units, up 32.9% YoY. Germany, the UK, and France jointly contributed more than half of total BEV sales and maintained robust growth ranging from 20% to 60%. High-penetration markets such as the Netherlands and Denmark continued to rise steadily, while Norway posted a slight decline. The Netherlands (13.9k), Belgium (12.4k), and Denmark (11.4k) formed the second tier of BEV markets.
Plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) rebounded strongly across Southern and Eastern Europe, with Italy, Spain, and Poland all surpassing 100% YoY growth—an expansion closely linked to broader model availability from Chinese OEMs. Germany remained the largest PHEV market with 30.9k units, followed by the UK (17.6k) and Spain (12.6k).
Hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) delivered stable expansion. Germany (70.6k), France (59.2k), and Italy (57.6k) maintained solid performance, while the Czech Republic (+40.7%), Greece (+20.9%), and Spain (+18.9%) posted the strongest growth rates.
Among OEMs, Volkswagen Group strengthened its leadership with a 28.3% market share. Renault posted double-digit growth, BMW continued to expand, while Mercedes-Benz and Volvo recorded declines. Chinese brands outperformed the market significantly: BYD sold 17.3k units (+206.8%), and SAIC reached 23k units (+35.9%). Tesla’s monthly sales fell by nearly 50%.
Overall, October underscored Europe’s accelerating transition toward electrification— a trend increasingly underpinned by China’s battery and EV supply chain.
